Some of you that have played golf and will understand when I say
that too much thinking can be bad for your game. You ever stand over your shot and you go through a series of checks to make sure your ready to swing. Everybody does! The better you get the less you will have to think about. What about practice swings? Do you take 1-3 practice swings before you hit?
Don't do it. You will focus better if you do not take a practice swing.
When approaching your next shot, pratice thinking only about the last good shot you hit and smile about it and swing away.
You will be amazed how many more quality shots you will hit if you use positive visualization and don't take pratice swings.
A practice swing is OK as long as you don't ground your club.
P.S. Another tip is to ground your club behind your ball before swinging and slide it forward and back. Alot of golfers dangle their club behind their ball and then hit a poor shot. Never dangle because that will change the arc of your swing in way you couldn't imagine unless you saw the angle differences on a computer.

Your best golf days are days you are relaxed with no outside worries and
don't think about too much.

I have no golf game.

So this should improve what I have?

The only experience I have being on a golf course, was being a golf cart girl, if you will.

I worked at the pro shop.

And I went out selling alcohol to the men and women playing.

It was a fun job but that's about it.

I stay on the mini golf course and that's where I'm the queen of the game.

Bet no one could beat me, at putt-putt.

I agree completely. I have been playing golf for 20 years now and I do not take any practice swings when I address the ball. A lot of golf is mental. Taking to many practice swings and thinking about it to much will mess up your game.

well i usually do one pratice swing then let her rip. i agree spending to much time at your ball is a bad idea. some others wont think so such as the laggers on the PGA. tiger woods on the wii will help u break a slump or a bad swing. well it helped me with my 3 weeks slice i had going there. i played this weekend at los positas golf course in livermore ca and i played good. shot a 83. hot as hell though. no wind no nothing just u standing dry heat. no beers though only water. i learned my lesson on fathers day when i got dehydrated. well good golfing to you golfers.

This is for you ringo.

And your golf loving arse.

See if you learn a lesson here, ey?

There was a preacher who was an avid golfer. Every chance he could get, he could be found on the golf course swinging away. It was an obsession.

One Sunday after a dreadful winter dawned a picture perfect day for golfing. The sun was out, no clouds in the sky, and the temperature was just right, that ideal, rare, incredible proto-spring day which pleads with us to come away and dally.

The preacher was in a quandary as to what to do, and shortly, the urge to play golf overcame him. He called an assistant to tell him that he was sick, arranged for the assistant to take his morning and evening services, packed the car up, and drove three hours to a golf course where no one would recognize him. Happily, he began to play the course.

His guardian angel was watching the preacher and was quite perturbed.

He went to God and said, "Look at this preacher. He should be punished for what he is doing." God agreed.

The preacher teed up on the first hole, a murderous PAR 4. He swung at the ball, and it sailed effortlessly through the air and landed right in the cup, five hundred yards away (as they say in basketball, nothing but net). A picture perfecthole-in-one. The preacher was staggered, amazed, and terrifically excited.

The angel was a little shocked. He turned to God and said, "Begging Your pardon Lord, but I thought you were going to punish him."

The Lord smiled. "Think about it -- whom can he tell?"

This makes me smile and think of you.

Hope you liked it, friend.

Too many golf swings will just wear you out. By the time you make the turn, it's almost as if you've already played 18 holes. If I have a bad hole, I tell myself going to the next hole, ok new hole, new game. That seems to work for me. Save your "thinking about the swing" for the driving range, on the course just play your game and don't use it for practice. 18 holes if about the final score. Golf is the best. I won't be able to play until sometime next year. This will be the longest time-out from golf I have ever had. I'm going to have to get a wii so I don't loose my swing. I have a great swing by the way.

I'm not a big golf player but I can see how swinging too many times could wear you out.

I think a lot of golf has to do with natural talent though.

Just like any other sport, really.

If you aren't born with it, you can improve, but you'll never be a Tiger Woods type golfer, you know?

Don't worry Kitty
Your muscle memory will make up for lack of practice.
Have confidence when you play again and trust your swing and you will play just as you did before your break.

Alot of times when I don't play golf for a while, when I go back out, I usually have a great game. I wish it would stay that way but it doesn't. The key to golf is consistency. That is what I preach over and over. A good tip for your putts, let your shoulders do the work.

I shot one of my best rounds (-1) after taking 8 months off.
I think our focus is more intensified then.
You practice too much and you THINK that you automaticly shoot well.
Intense concentration is the key.
The physical part is easy.
This why Tiger is so good, he has that intensity that I do.

Easy way to do this, is before you putt, forward press your hands and this locks your wrists and forces you to use your shoulders.
