View Full Version : Minor question about rep points

Hey NDN, I know you've been barraged with questions and comments about the rep system, so I hate to ask this, but I'm deathly curious- do the tiers depend on a certain number of rep points? What I mean is, can someone move up or down a tier regardless of the number of points they have, or is it like the posting system here where we change rankings based on the number of posts? Thanks for answering my dumb questions.

There is a set amount of rep points needed to move up a tier.

For example Tier 1 is -50 to 750. Tier 2 is 751 - whatever and so on.

If you go up or down, you move up or down. Simple!

Looks like our "moderator" handled that question.

Just to confirm, you move up and own tiers based solely on your reputation and nothing else.

That's why it's important to focus on the quality of your posts rather than the quantity. A few quality posts will earn your far more reputation and many more chips than a lot of low quality posts.

I was wondering the same thing myself, so thanks for the question/answer. Wasnt really sure how the whole up the tier/down the tier bit worked out.

Thanks guys, I was just wondering because recently NDN moved everyone up to Tier 2 and I didn't know if that meant he just added rep points to everyone or if you can change Tiers separate and apart from the rep points you have.

lol well that was nice. Thanks NDN!

Also one other random question while I'm thinking of it. What's the difference/significance of the dark green vs. light green squares?

I am thinking that the dark green being first,

and the fact that we were all moved up one tier today,

they (dark green) are the first tier.

The lit green squares are the tier you are on, (tier two).

Then when you are on tier three,

tier two will be shaded, and three lit up and so on.

But that is just what I think, as I may be wrong. :)

Did any one notice the quotes around the word "moderator" in this post by any chance? Just wondering? :)

lol, Give an NDN a rock and he is happy for days...

And Lori - yor wrong. Usually the bars are used as markers, to see how valuable to a forum someone is. However we changed the system on here to make it work for the rep..

So right now, each box is just a box. When you get to 10 boxes, thats it, thre boxes wil remain forever as they are at that point.

That doesn't explain her question about why some of the green boxes are lit and some are not.

I do believe the different shades represent the different levels/tiers as someone suggested earlier. However, I am not certain about that.

There are two things to look at.

Reputation Points & Reputation Power.

Reputation Power (the zero you see) is the amount of points you can inflict upon another member. This is zero for everyone except eejit101 and myself (we are the only two who can change your actual reputation).

Reputation Points are what determine your current tier level (you can see the numerical value of your rep points in the User CP).

The shades of the boxes are the same on every forum who uses this system.

You can set the rep system up so one box is one repped post, or a certain amount of posts, or a certai amount of rep power.

The shading of the last 5 boxes is there as otherwise itd be boring having 10 dark green boxes

Thats all i know!

To bad the rep points couldnt' be hidden from others.
We would have less confused, unhappy or demented members right now.

Tempting to see if that's possible.

Although I think things are "quieting down" a little bit now. It's very early with regards to the "new" system, but it already appears to be working!

How do you determine which posts got, or lost you rep? I think i was rep+ recently, i tried the CP to see which post, couldnt find it. Is there a way?

Should be the last thing you see in your User CP (at the very bottom there should be a section called "Latest Reputation Received").

Sorry guys one more question, lol. Does the chip earning rate vary within tiers, or does it only change when your tier changes? Like can a person with a higher number of points in tier 3 earn more chips per post than another person in the same tier with fewer points?

I have this same question so if NDN or Eejit can go ahead and answer this that would be great.

The rate is always constant for each tier.

I should add that it's not just the rate of earning chips for posts that changes with each tier.

You will also get more chips for referring new members and a few other things as you reach higher tiers.
