Would you could you for a house?
Would you could you for your spouse?.
Would you could you for some cash?
Would you could you for some a_ _?
Could you give up poker my friend?
Or would you play until the end.

I could give up poker for anyone in my nuclear family, if they had some serious arguments and it was taking an intense toll on our relationship. ALSO, I would give up poker if I got fat and anti-social. Two of my best friends play live full-time, have no lives, have gained a lot of weight, and have nothing interesting to talk about except hand histories. I don't want to be like them at any point in the near future, or ever for that matter. They did stack up quite a bit of greenbacks, though.

I enjoy playing the game. I think if you question whether you should or what might have you quit means that you're a freak! and not like that guys... lol - I know someone is thinking something dirty.

Just thought I'd throw out there that there's a huuuge difference between being anti-social and becoming anti-social. Klinkman and I both are somewhat anti-social, or socially awkward, although he is moreso than I. Neither of us really like large parties or being forced to be social with people we don't know, or having to deal with people in general sometimes, as they can get annoying. That's completely a different ballgame than becoming anti-social though. That's not really a good thing.

well it took a toll in my family like 3 years ago when i was immersed in it. but i learn when to play. i usually play on the late night so that everyone is asleep. i play b4 wife gets home and i make sure the kids are good oing something before i play when i am watching them during the day. as for being anti social we all have our quirks to us. i dont like being in places when i dont know them. i just leave. parties are boring if i dont know anyone.

Nope not greedy, I can understand completely! And look at what you are sacrificing, poker, that's a lot. That would be like me giving up my computer. It would take A whole lot maybe all of those things together for the switch.

I would give up poker for $800 a month under the table and start playing golf everyday.
Golf is my true passion, but expensive to play often.
As far as being anti-social, I don't need too much time outside my home and family. I love my NDN family too and I don't have to worry about upsetting my wife when I need social interaction. I lost 8 lbs this last 2 weeks, only 11
to go and I can get my box of old jeans out again.

Poker does get old sometimes.
Good to mix it up.
your comment is rather baffling,
but after rereading it and reading between the lines. (Eejit taght me that)
I would agree that I don't have anything to give up either.
So I will be playing poker forever.

Some days I feel the same way. Some days Im all gung ho about getting out and getting wild, sometimes I like to hide out and re-evaluate my life. But, yes you are right about BECOMING anti-social FROM poker is the worst, because it is just stripping you of your livelihood. I would hate to be so over-concerned with playing cards that I temporarily or permanently lose sight of what I really care about, and I think these forums can help keep a balance. however, if you prefer it that way, then no harm no foul.

i guess what i'm trying to say is "isn't it best to keep it, poker, a hobby" un like the pros who can win 2,000,000 on monday and lose it on thursday. Are the three days in the middle worth trading a lifetime of memories away for. For a pro, must be he does it every day, for someone else? i don,t know where he sets his goals or dreams, for me no and no again!!! i like my house, food on the table, the kids coming over on weekends, and yes the crappy memories of tomorrow that i'll have next month ;if i live that long;and i love my HOBBIE!!!!

I agree completely with you eddie.
I keep it a hobby too and enjoy my $100-$200 a month profit from my hobby.
I have lived the gamblers life shortly and I didn't like the person I was.
Poker hobby = free golf once a week

I like eejits answer the best. I would give it up if my family wanted me too. Oh well. Glad I don't have to make that decision though.

I have given up poker for golf and the horses. Once in a while, a forced family function gets in the way. Hey Freeringo, if you get a part-time job at a golf course, you can play everyday if you want and for FREE!!!!! I love working at the golf course. It's therapy for me. Nobody ever goes to the golf course if they are sick and they are always happy to be there, at least they are when they tee off. Coming off 18, some can't even talk about their game so they go straight to the 19th hole!!!! 18 holes of golf, happy hour at the track and then a little poker. Life is beautiful!!!!!
