I've been observing the world changing their policies on waste management and was curious to see how many people recycle here.

Something interesting that I watched on "Current" is how San Francisco banned plastic bags. The bags that you get at the grocery store that you use for 10 minutes and that last a lifetime. Now you have to take your own bags or get paper. I think paper is more durable anyhow, I don't know why people keep using plastic.. Also, designers are taking on a new way to look at your own bags. Designing them to be a fashious expression and a green statement. The only problem with this is that I couldn't see myself spending money on something so rediculous. But koodo's to those who are pushing the envelope for a greener world.

I also saw a pod on a small town in New Zealand. They had a canyon where they would take all of the trash to and became concerned when the canyon turned into a hillside. The community made their effots towards a "0 waste community" They have been successful at this and have been taking on other recycling duties. I think this awesome and it is true that there would be no need for waste if we simply cared.

One thing kind of struck me about all of this.. We never think about what happens when we flush the toilet or put the trash in the garbage can. For one day, think about what you are throwing away and think about where it is going. I think it's depressing that we are so careless.

well as for plastic ebags. there are good and bad to this being banned. the good thing is u get rid of plastic that is non biodegradable but then we start using paper bags then we cut down more trees. so which is better? they do sell bio degradable bags like at whole foods and others but if they offe rthose i believe they should be free in stead of paying like 3-5 bucks for them. as a world as a whole we need to be green we need to worry about one thing at a time. i say pollution is out biggest worry. we got so much federal and local money tied in being green but non of it seems to be working. i say reduce pollution then worry about the rest.

If you read my post it talk about re-usable bags and the fashion designers and what not.. that is the alternative. They do charge you for plastic bags in other cities.

- I don't know where they design paper bags..

In Los Angeles they charge you for plastic bags.

I didn't use "re-usable" I figured that people would pick up on it. Who would ever design paper bags??
