Lately I have noticed some "excessive" posting and I would like to address it.

The "chips" system is in place to reward members for their loyalty over time. I did not put the system in place so that members can make posts that aren't really needed just to earn a quick couple of bucks in a very short period of time. I consider this to be abuse of the system and I will start taking action if needed.

The excessive posts hurt this forum in a couple ways. First, it makes it very difficult for me to keep up with everything and increases the chances that I will miss something important. Second, it actually keeps some members from coming to NDN because it's simply just not worth it to read some of the posts that are made.

I've had several members talk to me about this and quite frankly I agree with them.

I ask all members to make sure that they are posting relevant and useful information in the forums. We've actually had a lot less abuse of the system than I expected so I am thankful to everyone for that. However, there are a few instances where it is getting a bit extreme and I would like to see that stop.

I will remove memebers from the "chips" system temporarily or permanently if needed, but I hope it never comes to this!

I have no problem with anyone earning a million chips a day, but please make sure your posts are ones that everyone will enjoy reading!

Thanks for your understanding,
NDN

I just think that there is a very thin thin line between posting and spamming us all may cross it at times without even wanting to.

For my part I try to post as much as I can when I am here cause unfortunately I cant be here everyday. Hope I help make everyone's posting on forum nicer :)

I probally have done it myself, mostly I just answer now.Soon tho I will be back on the links, and answering will be all I have time to do.I agree with ya'll it makes it hard to follow threads.

you talk about hard to follow a thread..I changed my settings to last post first in a thread....thinking much better to see the last reply ...WRONG!...i read the posts and still have to go to the end now to see the original becuz I'm totally lost by the post .... Ive been saying congratulations in post.... should we refrain from that?

oh and by the way I'm changing the settings back to the original way they were .. still nice to have options and maybe someppl have found that option helpful ...

I dont think congratulating the draw winners on the respective thread is a bad thing at all and doubt NDN will have a problem with that :)

Saying congrats in a post is just fine!

I would just like to see a stop to some of the posts that don't really benefit anyone.

I'm not saying I want every post to be a detailed book about a topic, I'd just like to see posts that at least a few people can benefit from. You can make thirty posts making fun of everyone and I wouldn't mind as long as they are entertaining for us to read!!!

Just remember when making a post to make sure it'll be useful or entertaining for other members.

In any case, there are only a select few instances where the excessive posting is occuring, so most people will never have to worry about this.

However, I will remove anyone from the "chips" system who's posts make the forum hard to read for everyone.

I wouldn't worry to much about it!

A few members said it was getting hard to read the forum (I agreed) so basically posted this as a reminder to everyone to make sure your posts serve a purpose!

No one should worry about posting. I'll contact anyone privately if there are any issues.

Hey I am not worried at all. All you have to do is weigh the benefits from loss of me. Just let me know there are other sites but I think you know I like this one. You can't play favorites to some and have a fair site. Do what you will do.(No smile here now)

Thing is ND, people who barely post or are NOT 100% familiar on using the forum tools correctly (like me) to surf through all the posts may and will in fact complain and find it harder...but at the same time, guys like me and eejit and dabber who love posting feel targeted, at least i know for sure dabber and i both feel this is at us, and just like he said it man, if I am causing trouble, take me off the chips system, but i will keep on posting, if not, i wont like my stay here anymore, always worrying about if what i am posting is good or bad or for whom it will be good and for whom it will be bad...:(

Donks:) ( i made fun of them and it was entertaining... well, for me it was)

I cant believe myself that a thread inclined to stop pointless posting has 16 replies (not including this one, as this post is for comedy value) about the subject.

Talk about irony i guess

I agree with usc that some of us cross this boundary and dont even mean to, but i like that you are taking action ndn, because it actually stops those that DO mean to spam around here, and there are a few.

Im sure this post will clear things up for everyone

I am still seeing some abuse of the system.

For example:

There is no reason to respond to a thread to simply say "thanks" unless you have some extra things to say as well.

The "thanks" button is in place to eliminate all of the "thank you" posts and make the forum easier to read.

I am also seeing many posts that simply don't contribute anything to the forum.

I urge everyone to make sure their posts contribute something to the forum before making them.

If this continues, I will have to think about removing the chips system.

I am proud of the system and I love giving the money away, but if it makes the forum harder to read or less informative then it is doing the exact opposite of what it's suppose to do.

Please do your part by making sure each of your posts contribute something to this forum!!!

Thanks,
NDN

Post away dabber.

I'd like to point out that I started this thread on behalf of a few other memebers and not just myself.

If we are losing active members because it's too difficult to read through the "junk" posts to get to the good stuff then something has to change!

I have a question about this.

There are some threads where people will post a joke. In the past, I've responded to these threads with something likel "very nice!" to let the poster know that I liked the joke and appreciate it. Should I be using the thanks button instead?

nodepositneeded
01-13-2009, 07:02 PM
I would suggest using the "thanks" button wherever possible, but unless you are responding to many threads by only saying thank you then this won't be a problem.
