I'm a bit tired at the moment, so I need some help creating a new contest!

Here are my initial ideas:

I would like to develop a contest (of any kind) where people are awarded random cards from a standard deck of cards for performing an action (such as guessing a trivia question correctly, making a post about something, etc...).

The goal of this contest would be to collect as many cards as you can and then use them to create your best five card poker hand.

The person with the best five card hand at the end of the contest would then receive an Amazon.com gift card.

I need your help figuring out how we can make this work!

The person who posts a feasible contest that we end up using will receive a $5 Amazon.com gift card!

I dont know about my ability to come up w a new game, but I can tie it into the games u already have...

U could tie it into the daily trivia game, who wins day by day... best hand at the end of the month

or tie it into the football pickem... assign each game a card, if U pick the game right, U get that Card... (maybe assign a flop to the team on thursday game, a turn to each on the sunday night game, and a river to the monday night game?)... and if u do it this way-
I was try to tie betting into it like, start w 100 chips... but it doesnt really work w no hole cards and would just be every shoving after sunday...

u can do the connect celebity connection thing that way... assign the flop, then if u do it in 1 u get a Ace, 2 a King, 3 a Queen, etc... then one day deal a random turn, then a random river etc... I dont know how easy it would be for some one to control the amount they did it in, say like -get a straight in 3-5 straight days... or quads in 3-4 days

Ok, ive done something like this before.

What you can do is the following....

52 cards in a deck. Obviously this would be 5 card stud. So there would be no need for a flor turn and river.


Each week you generally do 5 contests. Each contest winner received 2 cards.

At the end of each month, give 5 cards to the trivia winner, 3 to 2nd, 1 to 3rd, as its a longest contest.

Also - award a bonus card to people who maybe got insanely close to the arcade score, or asked a great question in 20 questions.

So.....

1 month.

Trivia Winner - 5 Cards. 2nd - 3 Cards. 3rd - 1 Card.
Contest Winner - 2 Cards.
Bonus Awards - 1 Card.


For the card drawing - use RANDOM.ORG - Playing Card Shuffler (http://www.random.org/playing-cards/)

This allows you to remove the cards a certain player already has! Obviously you PM the cards to the winner, and it is up to them to make the winning hand in the claim period after the events.

The issue with drawing a flop is it would mean someone with only 1 card could have the nut flush, while someone who has won 10 games, would only be able to maybe have trips or something as they didnt get the Ace of spades.

... the daily triva here is diff. its timed, etc...

but I would do something else then just ask a Triva Question

exactly, which is why im not putting too much emphasis on it. 5 cards for a month compared to 8 or 10 cards for another forum based challenge.

I'll continue to ponder this and will see if I can use everyone's suggestions at the end of the week to make a new contest.

i completely suck at trivia, my useless junk library upstairs has gone to chit me thinks.

However i always did like those short 5-10 second clips the radio would play of a song and people had to call in and try to guess what it is. Since we would do this online you can use movie clips too i suppose.

I like this card idea ,going through W/D on cards here lol. BTW FT got bought for 80 Million dollars , I have no clue where site will go live but be assured we will be doing poker ASAP.I am ok to play with new owners ,none of old guys will be back and I am sure a few big pro players will be out in the cold once it comes out how much debt they owed to the owners.Not sure how all that went down but I did get a few t-shirts from beating out the pros and a couple decent wins there.I have money in my bodog and poker stars for about a year but i hate playing there lol

If you want to make it interseting and involve as many people as possible.
The contest should be 7 days long and anyone who involves themselves in a certain pre determined event gets 1 card for the day. On Monday you can make a list of things to do in order to qualify for a daily card. If a member misses a day or 2 they can still have a chance to win a prize. This eliminates the advantage some may have if they have the ability to collect more than 7 cards in a week.

Key to success is 7 card max.

No can do. Would take ages to award and monitor the cards everyone earns. If we were to do it that way, we may as well just bring back the chips system.

The contests are geared more towards motivating our existing members to stay (or become) active in forum discussions. If we pick up some new traffic because of the contests in the process that's an added benefit.

But, knowing the real purpose behind the contests (encouraging existing members to become active), does that give anyone any new ideas?

you can simplify the card scheme as well by offering different prizes for different hands.

say you offer a $5 amazon card for a 3 of a kind
$10 for a straight or flush or FH
$20 for a 4 of a kind
$25 Straight Flush
$50 for a Royal

Make it a monthly contest so members will be encouraged to earn as many cards as they can get.

If you limit the max amount of cards to say 3-4 a week per person, the work load and odds will be in houses favor. Also to reduce workload, award cards on a weekly achievement basis.

1 card awarded per week for 15 posts
1 card awarded per week for participating in 5 or more days of trivia
1 card awarded for downloading a casino ??
1 card awarded for posting a top 10 score in an arcade game
1 card awarded for logging on all 7 days
1 card awarded for winning NFL contest
1 card awarded for correct guess of contest
ect ect

the post thing must have a stipulation of worthiness and this^^^^^would not fly! my suggestion ...i'm in the race for best suggestion!

how about a contest for best Christmas song by member.....like karaoke!
easy enuf you make a recording with basic recorder upload to site that has that (been so long since i did this i forgot the names). maybe the cards could be given for participation. then have
voting by membership for best song yup everyone knows its a popularity contest therefore the card could be consolation prize.

use the cards as consolation/participation gives and make a monthly give with them

another contest that's fun is Christmas cards using paint that's fun..again carrd for participation(monthly event) and 5 dollars for the best card voted for the weekly give..ok I'm spending way too much time with the grandkids.
