View Full Version : American Idol - Season 10

Over the years we have had some good discussions about American Idol amongst the members here who watch the show. So, this shall be the place for AI followers to share their thoughts as the season progresses.

This week was the semifinal rounds with the guys singing yesterday, the girls singing today, and the voting results coming tomorrow.

Before we cover the performances, we should note that this season we saw two judges leave and Jennifer Lopez & Steven Tyler take their places. When the new judges were first announced, I was pretty skeptical. Although, when the audition rounds aired, I was actually pleasantly surprised with both judges. However, during the live shows yesterday and today, I've lost a little hope for all three judges. Jennifer Lopez loves everyone and has a hard time criticizing a bad performance. Steven Tyler is a little more critical, but still a little too gentle with his remarks. Randy has taken more of a "Simon" approach, but it bugs me that when he makes a valid point and the other two disagree with him he backs off and gives in to the newcomers.

Guys Night
Anyhow, as for the guy's performances, I thought it was absolutely the worst show I have seen to date. I honestly couldn't believe some of the great things the judges had to say about some of the worst performances ever. That's not to say there weren't some good performances, but overall, it was just awful. Twelve people sang and five are voted in (along with three extra picks from the judges). My top five (in no particular order) are; Casey, Jacob, Paul, Stefano, Brett.

Girls Night
The girls gave the show some redemption and there were actually some quality performances (thank god)! There were certainly some horrid singers, but overall, they did a far better job than the guys. My top five (once again in no particular order) are; Haley, Karen, Kendra, Thia, Lauren.

I think the judges get to pick three wild cards who don't get voted in, so I would like to see; Pia, Robbie, Rachel.

All my selections are based on my opinion of their vocal talent thus far (which we have limited material to go off of).

The results of the voting are largely influenced by a younger voting crowd (mainly female) so the results are never a good indication of who has the most talent.

I think James will be a lock based on voting, but he's just another Adam Lambert (only not nearly as good as Adam was) so I could do without him this season. Scotty is getting some buzz, but I just don't see how he can progress in the show without sounding the same each and every week.

Feel free to share your thoughts as the season progresses!

WTF no, Brett was awful. Please dear God no.

The guys were actually better than the girls, IMHO. I voted for Casey, James, Paul, and Scotty (I don't like country music, but his voice was AMAZING).

As far as the girls go, only two had staying power, Naima and Pia. Everyone else was marginal to bad.

I know, I was referring to NDN saying that Brett was in his top 5 guys.

Brett was a random pick. Casey, Jacob, Paul, and Stefano were easy locks for me, but the other eight were all extremely horrible. I went with Brett because although his performance was creepy, there were parts where I thought the voice had some potential with better song selection.

As for Scotty, unlike you I do love country music, yet his voice did nothing for me.

I'm surprised to hear you liked the guys better and I'd be interested to hear from other members who watch the show.

I thought the girls I picked were absolutely amazing. I'll throw you a bone and say Naima could get a judges pick because of her uniqueness and I did hear some hints of a voice in her marginal performance.

Tay, maybe you fall into that young female voting crowd I mentioned and thus you're partial to the guys?!?!

Were you watching the same Stephano I was watching? Are you sure? That dude could not sing.

I didn't let my dislike of country prevent me from voting for Scotty. Or my dislike of Judas Priest prevent me from voting for James...Stephano just SUCKED. He was off pitch or undersinging the entire time, the song wasn't enjoyable to listen to, quite the opposite it was grating on the ears. You have GOT to be confusing Stephano with someone else..that's the only explanation other than you're completely deaf!

Always.

Ok then, my honest opinion of the guys show:

Clint: Not a bad way to kick off the show, but got crushed by better performances later on.

Govani: I enjoyed this performance. I really did. It didn't get any better than just quiet enjoyment though.

Jordan: I have no idea what he was thinking picking a bad Usher song, singing worse than Usher (Is that even possible?!?!?!) and topped it all off with terribad dance moves.

Tim: I really wanted to like this performance. If you want to put genre bias in prospetive, the only artist who was performed on this show I have on my iPod is Rob Thomas. But this performance just wasn't good. I really wanted to like it but I just couldn't

On a side note, why the **** doesn't anyone remember the title of the song is "Streetcorner Symphony" ?!?!

Brett: No. Just No. Really, this guy made the top 24? Really, this guy made it past the first "LOL UR SO BAD" show? You all should be ashamed of yourselves if this is the best you can do.

Oh you want me to articulate why he was so bad? The first half of the song was so timidly undersung it sounded like an 8 year old a chuch talent show, and the second half was so off key it sounded like drunk karioke.

James: It takes real talent to scream the high notes without getting shrill, and also to sing a Judas Priest song and actually give a full bodied sound during the verses.

Robbie: The arrangement was terrible (to the point where I almost didn't recognize it), and he seemed a bit off key for most of the performance. Perhaps I'm being a bit too harsh on the arrangement, but terrible arrangements can kill performances, and this one certainly did.

Scotty: I'm not that big of fan of country music, but maybe if more of it sounded like Scotty I would be. He had this wonderful enchanting deep voice and gave an extremely professional performance. I was extremely impressed.

Stefano: His voice was grating, he was off key for the ENTIRE song, and he has all the charm of your average Jersy Shore character. You told me not to hate him for his genre. What is his genre? Douchebag?

Paul: This is where I'm probably going to disagree with most everyone. I thought he just wasn't very good. I think he was at the same level of singing as Tim-just plain not very good. It's really hard to articulate what I didn't like about their performances, but I guess the best way to put it is that instead of having a deep and robust sound theirs was shallow.

Jacob: I honestly didn't think Jacob was as good as the judges did, but he is clearly a talented singer. The biggest reason perhaps was his vocal style doesn't match my taste, but he's clearly talented enough to be here

Casey: I loved this performance. American Idol clearly needs more big band style frontmen.

My top 5, in order, were: Scotty, Casey, James, Jacob, Govani. Clint then would have been my wild card.

My top 4 did make it, and Govani was clearly worse than the rest so I can't complain about the top 13.

3. Adam Lambert is far superior to Jame Durbin and I just don't think he could possibly get as far as Adam did in the competition. That's not to say he isn't talented, but I just don't think he brings anything new to the competition.

I won't pick a favorite yet since we really haven't seen much from the contestants.
However, based on previous years outcomes, I am willing to bet that
Lauren or Paul will win the title.
Lauren is from GA and Paul is from AL and them southern folk own the AI vote.
I am hoping to be wrong with the new online voting might even things out.
I will make my final prdiction with 10 people left and a chance to hear who will mature and who won't.

I loved Julie, No Julie:confused:

Julie was great in everything she did up until her final performance. I especially like her piano duet the previous week. She really shot herself in the foot with her last performance though, it was extremely uncomfortable to watch!

I was hoping her looks would get her on stage one more time or at least garner one last shot via the judges picks. I thought she had some potential and was hoping to hear her a few more times in the competition.

Definitely too early to pick a favorite, but hoping tomorrow night is a good one and helps us narrow it down!

The top 13 performed tonight and it turned out to be an up and down kind of night. There some really high highs and some really low lows.

Here is my breakdown by singer:

Ashton - A very mediocre performance and it cemented my belief that Kendra was certainly more deserving of a spot in the top 13 than Ashton. My biggest dislike is her complete lack of range. It all sounds monotone and she simply has no reach! Oddly, the judges generally liked this performance (wtf?).

Casey - Another solid performance. I'd say he took a few steps forward but also a few steps back in some areas. It will be hard to dislike any of his performances down the road. Judges loved him as always.

Haley - While not a fan of the song "Blue" at all, I actually liked the performance. I was hoping for a little more of the "growl" that she has, but I got enough of that to keep me wanting more in future weeks. I agreed with J-Lo when she said she does some things with her voice that are truly unique.

Jacob - What in the hell happened here? Starting the week at the top of the pack, I was utterly disappointed and confused with this performance. I think it was far too over the top and was basically just screaming nonsense. However, he must sound amazing live because the judges once again loved it.

James - Although I have never doubted his talent, I didn't think this season could handle another Adam Lambert. While I still think he can't compare to Adam, his performance tonight was one of the best (and probably the best) and I was quite pleased to see that he listened to the "powers" and did not scream the entire song.

Karen - A weak performance from a strong contestant. A bad follow-up to last week and I think it hurts her even more since she tried to play on the Selena/J-Lo thing and then came up short with the vocals.

Lauren - A setback from last week for sure, but she'll go far in this contest regardless (and rightful so).

Naima - What in the? I didn't get it. I wanted to see Kendra in the top 13 over Naima/Ashton and this performance just proves that the judges made a mistake. I'm all for the uniqueness that she has, but the talent just isn't there. I did appreciate the shave though.

Paul - I think he'll last a little while, but I did not care for the performance. It was a repeat of last week, but not as good. He needs to change things up. I think he has some potential, but for whatever reason hasn't found a way to "open up" just yet.

Pia - Solid. Probably second best on the night after James. I like her composure more than anything and the way she handles herself. Not to mention the killer vocals.

Scotty - I was hoping to hear something that would get me in his corner at least a little bit, but once again I was left wondering what the hell he is doing in the competition. His vocals were trash, but I also find it uncomfortable to watch him move on the stage.

Stefano - A weak performance. He's been on the lower end of the hopefuls and rightfully so after tonight's performance.

Thia - I still love the voice, but wished she wouldn't have switched to the faster temp (especially since she kept the same slow pace of the song throughout the performance). I would have loved her sitting in a chair singing this like she did at the beginning. She's definitely worth staying in the competition, but hopefully she kind find some ways to try new things without backfiring like tonight.

That's all I have for you!

Please chime in if you watched the show!

The top 13 performed tonight and it turned out to be an up and down kind of night. There some really high highs and some really low lows.

Please chime in if you watched the show!

Ashton - I agree that her performance was mediocre. But given some of the awful performances I've seen, mediocre should be good enough for her to make it through this week. She'll have to find vocal range quickly if she wants to be competitive in the future though

Casey - I liked this performance, it was odd..a cover of a cover can do that. But I think he really rocked it.

Haley - Haley did do some truly unique things with her voice. But there is a reason why no one does them-they sound awful! I was reaching for something to poke out my ear drums with 30 seconds into the performance. It was THAT bad.

Jacob - I agree I have no idea where this performance came from. You know what I found uncomfortable to watch? Jacob looking like he was trying to take a dump on stage. The vocals were far over the top and pained. Still not the worst but a far cry from one of the top last week.

James - One of the top performances of the night, James proved that he truly has range and control over his voice. I didn't care for how they ended the song (those two lines don't go together) but that's a sacrifice that had to be made to make it 1:40

Karen - I actually disagree with most people's assessment of her performance. I thought it was decent, but the ending fell flat-literally (If she was trying to go up a third she was under it by almost a half step). I did think the rest of the performance was pretty good (though not great).

Lauren - This performance was OK at best. Utterly forgettable. But compared to some of the performances she'll have no trouble sticking around.

Naima - I really was not impressed by the dancing. And I really didn't get the choice of vocals either. This was not a good performance, though I don't think it was the worst either.

Paul - I completely agree with the assessment that it was "a repeat of last week, but not as good". And the statement that he needs to find a way to "open up" is spot on.

Pia - Solid indeed. I feel like she trails the two top guys, but is the best of the girls. I do think that it was solid, but not amazing. She'll get plenty of chances to try and top the boys, and I have no doubt she's capable

Scotty - I'm going to continue to disagree with you NDN, and just say "Haters gonna hate". This was the best performance of the evening, his voice is deep, rich and professional, and his stage presence is solid, but typical for a country singer.

Stefano - I actually think this performance was an improvement. Of course, prison gruel is an improvement over horse****, but I'd rather not eat either.

Thia - Nothing's coming to mind when I think of her performance. Therefore, I'm going to write it off as "forgettable" and be done with it.

Winner: Scotty
Bottom 3: Haley, Stefano, Naima

Voted Off: Haley

Talk about "Haters gonna hate!"

Scotty - I'm going to continue to disagree with you NDN, and just say "Haters gonna hate". This was the best performance of the evening, his voice is deep, rich and professional, and his stage presence is solid, but typical for a country singer.

I'm convinced that on some deep level there is some sort of passion or wanting that is clouding your judgment when it comes to Scotty. I'm not sure what it is, but there is definitely something there. While certainly not the worst of the night, he was a far cry from the best of the night! One thing that bothered me was when the backup singers came in, Scotty took that as a cue to sing quieter, put the microphone down by his waist, and basically give up on the song.

Winner: Scotty
Bottom 3: Haley, Stefano, Naima

Voted Off: Haley
Bottom 3: Naima, Ashton, Scotty.
You can switch those three for Paul, Jacob, and Stefano and that works for me too (based strictly on last night).

Not one performance stood out enough for me to want to watch one again.

I am picking my winner NOW.

JAMES DURBIN WILL WIN

I am wagering $5 a week on him to win it all.

5-1 odds right now.

He is Adam Lambert without the black fingernails, who should have won 2 years ago. James has the best hard luck story too! He has a 1 1/2 year old son and he has terrettes and ausbergers. The hit TV show PARENTHOOD deals with ausbergers and is in most Americans hearts right now.
Love for James will grow and grow once everyone gets to know him and his story.
I it SOOO inspiring.

Not one other contestant can even come close to his story.

Go back and listen to how articulate and concise he is too.

Here goes my weekly breakdown of the performances night on American Idol.

Casey: I'll admit that you have to be a Nirvana fan to appreciate his performance tonight, and luckily I am a fan of Nirvana, so I enjoyed this number. Perhaps not his best overall performance, but he's certainly not going anywhere anytime soon in the competition.

Haley: I'm still a Haley fan (perhaps one of just a few) and there were parts of her performance that I liked tonight, but I'll agree with the masses and say she was lacking quite a bit. However, you have to appreciate that she is "raw" and has no performing experience (unlike many contestants over the years) and that's clearly evident by the amount of makeup left on her face after she was done singing (rubbed off from the microphone). I feel like she is afraid to take the next step, but if she does, she's going to pick up fans quickly.

Jacob: I really enjoyed this performance. I thought that after he butchered last week's performance he'd switch back to a slow ballad, but I am glad he still showed some courage and did this song. I have a hunch that you have to be a Heart fan to have liked his performance tonight, which of course I am so I liked this one a lot.

James: This was the biggest disappointment of the night for me. When he said he was singing Bon Jovi he got my hopes way too high and he fell short in his performance. This was mediocre at best.

Karen: Much improved from last week, and basically a solid performance, but it was forgettable. If she survives another week she is in need of a "moment" as the judges call it.

Lauren: A great performance from a likable contestant. Nuff said.

Naima: No surprise here, the worst of the night again for me. She continues to show week after week that she just doesn't compare to the rest of the group.

Paul: As feared, he did another repeat performance. I'll give him small props because I like the original song, but he's not doing himself any favors with the same old thing each week. He has enough fans to get by, but he needs the "moment" that I mentioned earlier.

Pia: Without a doubt one of the top three voices of the final 12. She could use a "change it up" attitude, but based on her voice alone she should get far this year.

Scotty: This was my favorite performance of his. I'm still not a Scotty fan don't get me wrong, but based on this performance he deserves to be here still.

Stefano: A little sleepy, but a good quality effort with some decent results. Certainly not one of the worst this week.

Thia: Love her voice and the innocence that she brings to the show. Would like to see her do a little something different, but certainly deserving of a few more weeks minimum.

My Personal Bottom Three: Naima - Paul - Haley
Likely Bottom Three Based On Voting: Karen - Haley - Naima

Going home: Naima (Please no judges save!)

i was very happy to see my personal favorite bounce back tonight. Jacob should stick to what he does best every week and just get it done. He has luther vandross qualities with a marvin ***e like personality, plus he is still young. I would love to still see what he can do 5 years down the road. A huge fan of nirvana myself, i loved casey's performance, and its shows how well rounded he can be. Great job casey! The myth of scotty was finally solved for me, he is a elvis impersonator! I see the light now, and can enjoy his style better knowing he does have a great elvis like tone, but he is a country singer. I think what we really need is a new blues singer, and if casey, jacob or pia cant do that, then i dont know who could.

Here goes my weekly breakdown of the performances night on American Idol.

I too shall give a weekly breakdown.

Casey: I always thought that the mass appeal of grunge was that it's best singers could bring a snarl and growl to a song while actually holding a tune. Casey didn't, and I really didn't enjoy this performance.

Haley: Again I feel like Haley was the worst of the week. She seemed off key the entire time, and her voice is just grating. Put it this way-I honestly don't think that she would have made it through auditions singing like that, she must have fallen greatly from then.

Jacob: I'm not really a Heart fan, but I did enjoy this song. Since Jacob is so technically perfect, it's nice to see him bring it to something other than the slow ballads he's done.

James: I was quite impressed by James once again. In addition to singing the song quite well, his stage presence was remarkable. I don't think he's a worse Adam Lambert. No, he's an IMPROVED Adam Lambert.

Karen: I don't think she was that much better than what she was last week, but I also didn't think she was that bad last week. She still really had an average and unremarkable performance.

Lauren: I felt like she really undersung the beginning of the song. Once she got to the chorus she was able to sing it out. I still don't think this performance surpassed decent for me, but decent is good enough for now.

Naima: I turned it on late and missed Naima. From what I heard on the recap, that might have been a good thing. The producers gave her the kiss of death (opening spot) so obviously they don't have much confidence in her either.

Paul: Instead of finding a song where he can really open up and bring his best performance, he keeps incrementally improving the same performance. Incremental improvements will only get you so far, at some point Paul will need to bring it or bust.

Pia: Pia brings another strong performance. She'll go far as she's clearly the best female. I still don't think she's as good as the top guys this year, but she'll be solidly in for the near future.

Scotty: I actually thought this was the worst performance of his. It was still respectable, but it felt like he was off in spots, which is unlike Scotty.

Stefano: Stefano improved again this week. He's actually good enough to be out of my bottom 3 I think. He's got a long ways to go before he catches up to the leaders though

Thia: She really needs to find songs that fit her range better, as her low notes were just off. The rest of the performance was mediocre, but that seemed like a theme for the day really.

My Personal Bottom Three: Naima - Casey - Haley

Likely Bottom Three Based On Voting: Karen - Haley - Naima I think I agree

Going home: Naima (Please no judges save!), Though I wouldn't be upset if Haley leaves as well. If Casey gets voted of I would use the save on him, but no one else mentioned in either of our bottom 3s.

Since you asked, NDN, here's my two cents:

Casey: I'm a big fan of Casey generally. That said, I'm also not a huge Nirvana fan. I agree that this was a weak performance for Casey, but honestly his version of the song didn't sound toooo far from the original in my mind, and it's not one of my favorite songs to begin with. So I thought he did okay with it. Definitely not the worst of the night.

Haley: Hands down, the worst of the night. Her voice was all over the place, and I'm honestly confused how she made it past the audition rounds with that kind of performance.

Jacob: I don't remember much about this performance right now, I think I thought it was fine. I think he's probably better suited as a Sam Cooke type singer, though.

James: I love James; I can see the comparisons to Adam Lambert, but I honestly think he's just better than Adam. I hope he can win, and he has a very compelling story for me personally, so I like that.

Karen: Karen was okay, I'm not sure how I feel about her doing a Spanish flair on every song, though. If she's honestly doing it because it's a part of her that she wants to express, more power to her and it certainly makes her a unique, talented contestant. If she's using it more to garner votes or judges favor, however, she should stop.

Lauren: I remember hearing a lot about her talent during the audition rounds, which I honestly didn't watch. Whatever people saw in her then certainly doesn't seem to be there now. Her song was better than last week in my opinion but pretty undersung. Not the worst, though.

Naima: I, too, missed Naima, but from what I heard at the end of the show, it wasn't that good. I don't think she's the worst yet, but I remember picking her out as one of only two or three girls that I even thought were really talented, and I don't know where that went, but it's gone now.

Paul: I still see something cool in him, I don't know what it is. This week though, he fell behind. He needs to step it up next week, for sure.

Pia: Pia was really one of the only other girls I originally liked, and she brought another solid performance. I'm a fan, though she's not my favorite.

Scotty: I don't like country music much, but I love Scotty. He's amazingly talented, and in my opinion, needs to have a record contract and be on the radio/in the country circut sooner rather than later. If he wins this competition, I'm not sure if he can have the same success Carrie found, but maybe.

Stefano: I still don't like him, but he improved this week enough to stay out of my bottom 3.

Thia: Thia was really good, but I wish she had picked a more mature song and not a Disney song that seems more "age appropriate" for her.

My Personal Bottom Three: Haley-Lauren-Naima

Likely Bottom Three Based On Voting: Naima-Haley- Karen as well

Going home: Haley I hope.

The results are in...

Official Bottom 3: Haley - Naima - Karen

Voted Off: Karen

My take: It turns out Tay, Klink, and myself were spot on with our "likely bottom three" picks. I'm fine with Karen going home and I don't think she earned a chance to try for the judges save. I really think Naima is the weakest link and I am in constant awe each time she makes it through. If she makes it into the top ten (meaning she survives next week) I will feel bad for any of the people who go to see the American Idol tour!

From what I can tell, the entire world was spot on with those picks. I can't feel too bad for Karen being voted off, as she wavered between bad and mediocre. I do think it should have been one of the other two voted off though. Oh well it's almost 100% that one of the two will be eliminated next week.

My Top 5 picks are:

James: will win hearts of America and win easily
Lauren: from Georgia and will get alot of votes, too ****y to win
Casey: we all want to see what he will do next but too much like weird Al Yankovich and we will tire of him
Pia: very cute but can she bring that star quality and a modern day sound? NO
Scotty: He is starting to show his lack of experience and will finish 5th with a great country career ahead

Stephano and Jacob are a toss up for 6th: When his Dad said "my Stephano" and he walked into audience and said "my momma", he lost alot of votes, not to mention his dumb look. Jacob's Mom is whacked and Jacob blew it when he said he was going to put the Lusky spin on it.

Thia: said 2 weeks ago she couldn't win and sounds like she is singing to children in a Disney movie. She will never sound modern. BORING

Paul: His voice is starting to hurt my ears now!!! and I don't see him changing anything about his style. YOUTUBE VIDEOS SUCK W/BAND

Motown Week. I'm writing this as they perform, so we'll see how the week goes.

Casey: He got it back this week in my opinion. Casey is going to be really hard to beaten, but he might end up beating himself.

Thia: Wow! I didn't know she had that in her. This competition has another real competitor now.

Jacob: I don't really agree with the judges. The beginning was breathy, not restrained, and the ending was just...out there. It was good for the rest of it, but it certainly wasn't run up on stage and hug the singer because you are so enamored by the performance good.

Lauren: Listening to her intro video was just painful. I was cringing. It's a good thing she sounded much better on stage. She still didn't pass mediocre, but hey it wasn't cringe worthy.

Stefano: Uggh, the old Stefano is back. I didn't enjoy any part of this performance, it just got on my nerves.

Haley: I had to distract myself by playing angry birds to avoid dealing with the pain that this horrific singer is still on the American Idol Stage. Oh God this was awful. The American public made a horrific mistake by keeping her around.

Scotty: This is a good sign for Scotty. He was beyond out of his element trying to do Motown, and found a way to at least kind of pull it off. I mean, I don't think he was anywhere near the best couple of performances today, but he still did okay, which is more than can be expected from a pure country singer.

Pia: I feel like she took a slight step back this week. She's been consistently strong throughout this competition, but she was only pretty good this week. I found it to be slightly sleepy, with nothing really exciting or interesting about it. She was lacking the feeling and stage presence that makes a performance like that truly impressive. Don't get me wrong, she was still good-just not strong or great like she has been.

Paul: I'm still not a Paul fan. I guess his voice is just not for me. I mean, it's not like he was outright bad like some before him, but I really don't care for his voice, and I don't expect him to make any major changes to it at this point.

Naima: They really put it up on a tee for her tonight. She did extremely well with it, perhaps the best I've heard so far. But she'll have to keep that up during weeks that aren't in her wheelhouse in order to survive.

James: James is an amazing performer, a talented singer and a little bit crazy too. He's gotta be one of the favorites from this point.

Winner: Thia. She was so much improved this week it was outright shocking. To be honest it was hard to pick a winner, as the top 6 or 7 were all pretty evenly matched, but Thia's shocking improvement puts her over the top.

Bottom 3: Lauren, Stefano, Haley

These were clearly the worst performances tonight. Lauren was better than Stefano and Haley, who were just grating on my ears. All will need massive improvements in order to catch up to the pack.

Going home: Haley

She was the worst of the bad in my opinion. She can't seem to carry a tune and her voice is grating. This should be the end of the line for her.

Excellent recap. Below you'll find my summary and rebuttals mixed within your reviews. We differ in more than one place this week!

Before we get to that though, I should say that I usually hate just about every theme week that they come up with on American Idol. Motown week is no different. Don't get me wrong, I love Motown, but year after year it's just a week of watching people who simply will never be able to improve a Motown song. Maybe it's the fact that these are all young singers trying to sing older tunes. Whatever it is, there has historically only been one performer each year that can pull this week off and I think it's a shame to dedicate a full week to a "theme" that only one contestant can master.

For most of my critiques, a lot of the negative stuff I have to say this week is due to the back-up vocals. If you're not able to sing over the back-ups and they do nothing to showcase your individual voice, then why they hell are you using them? A lot of people fell victim to the back-up singers this week in my opinion.

And now for the good stuff....

Motown Week. I'm writing this as they perform, so we'll see how the week goes.

Casey: He got it back this week in my opinion. Casey is going to be really hard to beaten, but he might end up beating himself.
I hate this song (and someone sings it every year, but I didn't mind the performance). I think Casey was at his best earlier in the year, but he'll no doubt have some more brilliant moments to come. I definitely agree that he might be the one to beat himself. I liken it to Adam Lambert staying true to himself and losing to the inferior Kris Allen. For Casey, it comes down to doing what he loves or doing what will get him the victory on AI. Clearly Adam stuck to what he does best and it's paying off these days, so I think Casey will take the same route.

Thia: Wow! I didn't know she had that in her. This competition has another real competitor now.
Definitely nice to see her move away from the ballads, but she fell victim to the "back-up singer" curse I mentioned earlier. I could barely hear her and she didn't give it 100% in my opinion. She still has a phenomenal voice, but she needs to really "go for it" and quickly!

Jacob: I don't really agree with the judges. The beginning was breathy, not restrained, and the ending was just...out there. It was good for the rest of it, but it certainly wasn't run up on stage and hug the singer because you are so enamored by the performance good.
I enjoyed this performance and liked that he listened to the "producers" and showed some restraint. Certainly not "hug" worthy, but pleasant enough for me.

Lauren: Listening to her intro video was just painful. I was cringing. It's a good thing she sounded much better on stage. She still didn't pass mediocre, but hey it wasn't cringe worthy.
She's still one of my favorites (I think it's more her demeanor than her voice). I liked that she started off the song slow, but when it went fast it was just alright for me. I'd like to see her do a ballad one week to get away from the upbeat stuff.

Stefano: Uggh, the old Stefano is back. I didn't enjoy any part of this performance, it just got on my nerves.
Not the best of the week, but not nearly the worst either. Based on the performance I think he deserves to be around a little while longer.

Haley: I had to distract myself by playing angry birds to avoid dealing with the pain that this horrific singer is still on the American Idol Stage. Oh God this was awful. The American public made a horrific mistake by keeping her around.
I hated 50% of the song and loved the other 50%. That's certainly not going to do her any favors, but I don't think she was the worst of the week. I'm telling you, one good "moment" and she can get a lot of momentum going her way and make some believers out of her critics.

Scotty: This is a good sign for Scotty. He was beyond out of his element trying to do Motown, and found a way to at least kind of pull it off. I mean, I don't think he was anywhere near the best couple of performances today, but he still did okay, which is more than can be expected from a pure country singer.
While Scotty was singing, it dawned on me who he is. He is Casey James from a year or two back (if you watch the show you'll know who I am talking about). He's the guy who makes it week after week and I am always left wondering why. He has way too many fans for his lackluster performances and it's a shame that better singers will leave the competition before he will.

While she definitely needs to try something other than a ballad, this was still one of the more pleasant songs to listen to tonight. In a night that left me confused about some and disappointed with others, at least she was consistent with her vocals.

Paul: I'm still not a Paul fan. I guess his voice is just not for me. I mean, it's not like he was outright bad like some before him, but I really don't care for his voice, and I don't expect him to make any major changes to it at this point.
Paul needs to do something drastic to make me a fan again. After liking his initial prospects, I've been left disappointed with nearly all of his performances.

Naima: They really put it up on a tee for her tonight. She did extremely well with it, perhaps the best I've heard so far. But she'll have to keep that up during weeks that aren't in her wheelhouse in order to survive.
I think someone paid the judges to try to get this girl some votes. Although this might have been her best performance, her best still falls short of every other contestant's worst.

James: James is an amazing performer, a talented singer and a little bit crazy too. He's gotta be one of the favorites from this point.
This was a great performance. I can't complain about any of it. Although, I will complain about him "soaking it up" after the performance a little too much.

Winner: Thia. She was so much improved this week it was outright shocking. To be honest it was hard to pick a winner, as the top 6 or 7 were all pretty evenly matched, but Thia's shocking improvement puts her over the top.
Winner: James by far.

Bottom 3: Lauren, Stefano, Haley
Bottom 3: Naima, Haley, Thia

You can swap out Thia for Paul if you'd like, but since Paul has the "fan vote" at the moment, I think Thia could be in the bottom.

Going home: Naima (Please Please Please)

I'll be shocked if Thia or Naima end up in the bottom 3 this week. They both improved greatly over the last couple of weeks. Thia wasn't even in the bottom 3 after an off week last time out! If Naima doesn't make it out of the bottom 3 this week she'll be gone by next week for sure, she won't get it handed to her again like she did this week.

I really do expect Haley to be the casualty for this week.

Just because someone improves doesn't mean they should stick around longer than contestants who are more talented. Like I said, it was Naima's best and she was definitely improved, but her best isn't ahead of any other contestant's worst.

I don't think Thia stands a shot at going home, but based on just this one performance, I think she deserves a taste of the bottom three.

I can definitely see Haley getting the ax, but I still think Naima is the weaker of the two.

I definitely disagree. Naima's best is better than Haley's best, let alone her worst. Naima's best is better than Stefano's best and and Paul's even in my opinion. It seems clear to me that this performance was improved enough to pull her ahead of the bottom 3.

Thia was good enough to be above the bottom 3 last week, even when she seemed to have an off week. She was WAY above them this week.

Naima might be weaker overall, but last week buys her a week reprieve most likely.

Holy crap look what happens when America is left to its own devices. Sheesh. No way in hell should Thia have been in the bottom three, let alone Casey. I applaud the judges for doing the right thing, but on the other hand, why in the world did they put Haley in the top 24? Just why? So in general, just craziness. I'm really happy for James though, that was just awesome. What a night for him.

The results are in....

The bottom three this week were: Thia - Stephano - CASEY

The person with the fewest votes this week was: CASEY

My take: I predicted Thia would be in the bottom three, I can understand why Stephano was in the bottom three, but what in the hell is Casey doing in the bottom three. Not only that, what is he doing with the least amount of votes?!?!

Needless to say, the judges let him sing about two words of his "save me" song and they stopped him and basically said what the hell is America doing. They used the judges save and we'll see all 11 contestants next week.

They didn't cover whether or not all 11 will be on tour or how many people they will eliminate next week. In the past when they've used the save, two people were eliminated the following week.

We will see what happens next week!

Maybe I'll get lucky and Naima will somehow end up getting the boot and not making it on the tour (fingers crossed)!!!

Our DVR cut off the last few minutes (Casey dragged it out a bit longer than needed). We usually start the show 30-45 minutes late so we can fast forward the commercials. I guess I'll have to start programming it to run a few minutes past the cutoff!

Casey was such a silly bugger last night.
Why did American not vote for him? Simple!

America is voting for James overwhelmingly.
therefore everyone else are just after thoughts now and any of them could go home next week.
Not one person besides James is even close to being a contender.

Casey reminded me of Michael J Fox singing as Teen Wolf.

it's a well known fact that 11-18 year old girls control the largest voting block for American Idol

So who will they vote for this year?

Scotty got 13mil votes and James got 7mil last week

the rest of the contestants show no appeal to the teenage girl group

Pia is now the front runner in the sportsbooks, but how many teens will vote for her?

It's a race between the 2 young heart throbs

I love James to death, but I don't think the girls are going to support him as much as Scotty because he has a kid and they won't relate with his handicap as much as the 30 + year old crowd.

Scotty will have to fall on his face to lose I believe. He has the girl vote and the country vote. Remember Kevin Skinner the chicken plucker who won America's got talent over an incredible singer. She is very hot right now and he is nowhere to be found. And Last year Lee Dewyze won over a much better singer because of the teen girl vote.

I will still root for James and laugh this year instead of throwing my remote when America gets it wrong AGAIN.

I didn't watch any of the videos, but I still didn't like your post or at least the way it was worded.
Really? I thought there were some pretty good videos there!

On a note related to that, Tay and I are going to see Avenue Q this weekend, I'm excited!

Lee DeWyze’s guest performance on American Idol last week has proved a masterstroke for the season nine winner.

Sales of the singer’s new single have skyrocketed following his appearance on the results show last Thursday.

Following his appearance, DeWyze sold 12,000 copies of his single, Beautiful Like You, which is a sales increase of a staggering 8,068 per cent.

***8068% increase? what was his sales before? 15 sold?

...12,000 x .091 (royalties) = 992.00
possibly another $600 for using his mug shot

Lee made a whopping 992.00-1592.00 in 1 week.

Avenue Q are very very talented bunch
thanks for turning me on to them Klink and HI TAY!
My daughter and I have been watching several others on youtube and have enjoyed everyone of them.

I want to take up a collection to pay to see that happen. ROFL

it's a well known fact that 11-18 year old girls control the largest voting block for American Idol

Lol. Last week you said there was no way James would lose and now you're saying there's no way Scotty will lose?

I'd gladly take your bets if you are willing to put money on Scotty winning the whole thing.

The thing that bugs me most about Scotty (aside from the same performance week after week) is the stupid impish grin he has when he sings.

There's just something not right about a singer smiling through a song about a soldier reading a letter from home while away at war.

Ringo

yes I did say last week James would win

But something happened since last week

Scotty didn't drop in popularity after a crummy performance and
James isn't becoming the big hit with the teen crowd like I thought he might.

James odds went up not down this week

So it looks like my money will be split between Scotty and James and still magage a nice 2.5 to 1 odds in the end

I am looking through the lense of a bettor, not a fan.

As a Fan I want James to win of course and so do most fans over the age of 30.
that demograph is not strong enough to win American Idol

Scotty: Scotty really is a one trick pony. It’s the best trick in this competition, without a doubt. He sounds ready to go make a country album right now. I don’t think anyone is as polished, both as a singer and as a performer as he is.
Naima: I have no idea how to evaluate that. It was so different from anything I expected from Elton John week that I’m kind of in shock. I don’t even think it was bad. It was just so far from left field that I don’t know how to rate it.
Paul: Nope, I still don’t like Paul. His voice was completely breathy, and it seemed like Paul is just terrible at inflections and dynamics. I pretty much would have done the exact opposite at every point in the song, except for the ending-which you have to actually hit the note instead of just whispering.
Pia: Strong as ever. Her voice was big and was on all of the notes. I don’t think I would have gone for the big ending as she did, I would have taken it back and ended quietly, but that certainly didn’t ruin this performance.
Stefano: Stefano improved a little bit this week. It seems like the producer worked him really hard to get him to that point. It still was weak and karaoke-ish compared to everyone else so far in the competition. Therefore, I think this was bottom 3 material.
Lauren: Lauren seemed off the entire performance. It seemed to me she was trying her hardest, but was off key the entire time and just could not hear it. I completely disagree with the judges, had she sounded like that I wouldn’t have kept her around very long.
James: EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thia: I think she was just okay this week. Her voice was decent, but not amazing, and she didn’t really have enough feeling to move me. She’ll need to find more feeling and a bigger performance if she wants to stick around much longer.
Casey: Nailed it again. Elton John songs need to have a certain ending, and many contestants botched it hard this week. Casey showed how they SHOULD be done. Props to him for that.
Jacob: I think the producer nailed it on the head when he said “When Jacob gets overdramatic he loses the audience”. I think that’s what happened here. I did like the last note, but much of the song was just as he said-overdramatic.
Haley: I’ve figured out why Haley is still on this show. She’s that terrible cabaret singer that you can’t even enjoy when drunk and you really only go see to try and get a look up her dress. Too bad she’s not even good for that!
Winner: James. Not even close.
My bottom 3: Haley – Stefano – Lauren
Going Home (in my view): Haley and Lauren
Haley has deserved to go home for several weeks, and this is no different. She is just a cut below the rest. Lauren has been in my bottom three for a while, and this week she was even worse in my opinion. Stefano improved a little bit, but I won’t feel bad if he gets eliminated.

It's no shocker that Klinkman and I completely disagree on just about every singer this week.

Overall I was disappointed with the show. I'm an Elton John fan and I was hoping it would be a great night all around, but that just wasn't the case. There were a few highlights, but for the most part I wasn't thrilled, especially considering that they picked a lot of the songs I was hoping to hear.

My breakdown singer by singer -

Scotty: What can I say about Scotty that hasn't already been said by Klinkman? Scotty is GREAT, great at making me want to shoot myself when he sings. I was hoping that each week he would show me a glimpse of why he should be allowed to stay in the competition (or a glimpse of how he got in it to begin with), but instead he continues to take a step back with every performance and it kills me that the voting is so biased that he will undoubtedly make it a few more weeks and outlast far better singers/performers. Scotty is so terrible that I am beginning to think Klinkman is giving him great reviews just to get a rise out of me. He can have his one-hit-wonder country song and then vanish and I'll be just fine with that.

Naima: You can use any of my past comments about Naima and apply them to tonight's performance. It was her worst yet (and she's had some pretty bad nights) and I will be happy to finally see her leave tomorrow. It's a shame people will have to listen to her on the AI tour.

Paul: Paul finally left out the backup singers who have been outsinging him on every song. Unfortunately, that left him by himself and he just can't hack it. I'm done hoping for more from Paul because I just don't think it's there.

Pia: A good performance as usual. I thought it was far less superior than her other songs, but definitely good enough to stick around.

Stefano: This didn't blow me away, but I thought it was good enough to survive this week.

Lauren: This was probably my second favorite performance of the night. I've been waiting for her to do a slower song compared to her other jumpy performances and I loved the vulnerability that she showed in her voice.

James: This song was borderline bottom three material for me. All of the theatrics were uncalled for because the song itself doesn't call for them to begin with.

Thia: I like this song and was hoping someone would sing it, and I thought Thia did a good job with it. I don't think it was great enough to pick up a mass following of fans, but it wasn't near the bottom three tonight.

Casey: This was an absolute stellar performance of a fantastic song. America is crazy for nearly voting him off and it would be a shame if he meets a similar fate anytime soon.

Jacob: The song itself wasn't bad and none of his really have been (except the R Kelly song) but I think I am starting to tire of Jacob. He should do something like Casey did and show a different side of him that we haven't seen before.

Haley: I FINALLY got what I have been looking for all along from Haley tonight and that is PERFECTION! This was the perfect song to showcase her fantastic voice and this was tied with Casey's performance for my favorite song of the night.

My Bottom 3: Naima, Scotty, Paul
America's Bottom 3: Naima, Paul, Jacob

Going Home: Naima, Paul

Dial idol had it right last week picking Casey to go home.

This week Stephano has the fewest votes followed by Paul then very close Thia.

Everyone else looks safe by more than 1.5 million votes

Scooty Jacob Casey top vote getters

James was 6th behind Pia and HALEY

Scotty got 6 million votes more than Pia

Still watching NOW

So far> up to Stephano and I am sooo bored I can't stand it
I turn the station if it's country, sorry Scotty. Niama tried to pull it off but fell abit short.
Paul who?

Pia is too boring to win and I am glad she is keeping the odds up on Scotty and James and now Casey could be a contender at 9-1 odds, he got 13 million votes this week and only 2.5 behind Scotty and now Jacob got nearly 14 million votes will really mix the odds up now

ZZZZZZZZZZZ Stepaho just finished I could have sang it better than that
Lauren next up
OMG way too much make up on it looked like it was squeezing her face while she sang
decent song, I kind of liked it

James was too funny but fun. That song was soo hard to sing, only Casey could have possibly sang that song with James
A pepsi moment was funny too

Thia Megia ( what a great name), got 1400 votes on blog site 900 more than Scotty as fan favorite, Yet on same blog she got second most votes to be gone this week....
WOW what a great song I could listen to her over Pia all day long.
If she wasn't just 16, I would say she looked and sounded sooo sexy.
The judges sucked with their comments for Thia, poor girl.
She is going to a sensation in a few years.

Casey
getting a trim finally
Not sure how to react to that performance

Jacob is definetly enjoying every "thecond" of his time on Idol
His voice was way to high for that song awful ouch turn it off
He should have started out 2 keys lower

Slayed me? Really Steve? Thia was way better

Haley qudos for singing Benny and the Jets very tough song
the hissing was terrible sounding
But she is going to be a great Jazz singer, just can't win AI

Best performance of the night by Randy was soooo RATINGS GRABBING
Randy is an idot sometimes

Biggest Double Loser was Elton John, not only did he miss out on being a Mentor
like Jamie Fox LOL, Not one of his songs were made fresh like David Cook did so well with several songs 3 years ago.

AI has gone cheap and try to play it off with sensationalizing Judges

James- best Coke commercial of the Year, the sponsers must love him

Lauren had a Paula Abdul momentsssssssssss
She was on something cause she was high as a kite last night

Thia Captivated the audience for over 30 seconds, but Steven who loves every girl in the contest except Thia say, You sang a great Elton John song Well. Crap

Casey went from wolfman into Eddie Munster eyes
Man is he weirding me out

Pia didn't rearrange song at all

Haley got much better second time around

The results are in...

This week's bottom three: Naima - Thia - Paul

The two going home are: Naima & Thia

I am content with this. I would have liked to have seen Paul or Scotty go instead of Thia, but it is what it is and I can live with it.

What a bunch of crap that was!!!

Naima got 3 times more votes than Stephano and Paul

Now we got 6 guys and 3 girls, dumb!!!

The Duets: Naima and Jacob were the best
Paul and Stephano sounded terrible, James good
Mia never moved her feet glued to the floor again and her hair is so boring too

Favortism at it finest hour, when Steven was all concerned about Lauren crying backstage,
but couldn't care less about Thia and Naima.

The Idol Blogs are in outrage and spewing things like rigged, racism and Steven Tyler sucks.

I will dread next weeks show with another Stephano and Paul performance

I was looking forward to both Thia and Naima cause they were both growing

Paul and Stepahony are DEAD to me now and I will never mention them again
Got to wait at least 2 weeks now to see those fools gone

P.S.

My wife likes Scotty the best and she hates hates hates country music
She says he is so fine and such a hard body.
Christ almighty
Who can compete against that?

Game over

I can't even watch, I can't envision a final 2 battle right now and I bet the producers can't either. HAHA
remember when they rejoiced saying this is the most talent ever on AI. NOT by a long shot

My top 2 were Casey? (Sorry seems to be the hardest word) and whoever sang the last song (Benny and the jets)

Tonight was Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame week and I'll keep my summary somewhat short and not very sweet.

Overall, this was my least favorite week of performances to date for this season's contestants.

For a night where you'd expect some songs that would keep you somewhat interested, it was very disappointing. Nearly every performance was boring as hell and no one stood out.

Casey - Tolerable and good for what it was, but boring as hell.

Haley - A terrible way to follow-up on a stellar performance last week. Just screaming and 100% grunting.

Jacob - The same old thing he has done every week. I'm beyond sick of it and was not impressed.

James - I miss Adam Lambert.

Lauren - Boring, not good, and boring.

Pia - Second best on the night, and still horrible.

Scotty - Third best on the night, but still don't think he should be in the competition.

Stefano - Boring.

Paul - Best of the night and best Paul performance ever. However, I only think he seemed "good" this week because the other eight were so bad.

My Top 3: Paul - Pia - Scotty
My Bottom 3: Haley - Lauren - Jacob (Swap Jacob with James and that works too)
America's Bottom 3: Haley - Lauren - Stefano

Casey - I like him better with a bit more of his growl, but this was amazing and sexy and very well sung.

Haley -Wow, I'm shocked you finally didn't like Haley. Good for you, NDN! Thing is, I thought she was actually decent, perhaps even good this week. Janis is definitely a good spot for her, but I remain unconvinced she can sing anything else.

Jacob - Jacob was amazing, and I'm glad he switched songs, because he nailed MJ. It was great, and he got better control of his "I'm poopin!" face, which was good.

James - Best performance of the night, and not just because he sang a Beatles song. I love this kid, he's amazing and inspirational, and a true artist. Definitely better than Adam Lambert. Deserves to win.

Lauren - Her Aretha was strictly worse than Aretha. Bottom three.

Pia - This was not good. She should stick to ballads.

Scotty - I thought he sounded best when his voice got to go back down to his lower registers where he just nails every country song ever written, but it was still a great performance. Deserves to be in the finals with James.

Stefano - Stefano sucks, and Randy had it right when he was talking about him rushing through phrasing in the song. Bottom three for sure.

Paul - I still like Paul, and he did a really good job with this song. He should definitely stick around, at least for another couple weeks.

My top three: James, Scotty, Paul

Overall I thought this was a very good performance. Performances that would have been middle of the pack in past weeks are bottom three this week, in my opinion.

Jacob: I definitely thought he did well with the song. He'll need more performances at least that good to make a run in this competition

Haley: Definitely the best performance I've heard from her. Not that that's saying much, but hey it is going the right direction.

Casey: See, I've always thought the upright bass was awesome and had a place in modern acoustic rock, and here Casey made it so. The mandolin was a nice touch too. I guess it might have been a little sleepy on a night of big uptempo performances, but I really liked it.

Lauren: She's been in my bottom three for several weeks now, and this week I expect her to be in America's bottom three as well. This wasn't even that bad to be honest, but it was sandwiched between good performances on all sides and pales to the original, leaving her alone in mediocrity.

James: I guess the way to top yourself was to not go over the top at all. Completely nailed the performance, and it stands out in my mind because it was so different than the rest of the performances.

Pia: The first note that she completely missed set the tone for the performances. She missed note after note, and it was glaringly obvious to me where she was wrong. She seemed out of her element here, and this was a bad week to stumble.

Scotty: He's been waiting this entire competition to bust out the Elvis hasn't he. He actually didn't seem as polished as you'd expect from someone who's wanted to sing like him their entire life. But there's a reason why the girls flock to him on stage like they did Elvis. He's not going anywhere and nor should he.

Stefano: Why is he still here? The song exposed every weakness in his voice, and man there are too many to count. This is probably the last straw for him though, he was bad in a week full of good.

Paul: I guess Paul finally found a song where he could bring his voice out. He can't sing Cash every week, and his voice doesn't seem suited to anything else. Still, he shouldn't be voted off this week, this was his best to date.

Winner: Based on what I've said past weeks, I almost have to give it to Haley. She finally hit it this week and caught up to the rest of the pack. I can't pick a standout strong performance otherwise, but Jacob and James had strong weeks.

My bottom 3: Stefano - Pia - Lauren
I think there was a clear cut between the rest of the performances and these 3.

America's bottom 3: Stefano's the only lock here in my mind. Paul hit it and got the pimp spot. Haley still might be, even though she had the week of her life in my mind. Jacob got the kiss of death and that's going hurt him. Pia has a big fan base and probably won't end up here. Lauren's managed to avoid it this long, why start now?

Going home: Stefano. And it's not even really close.

That gives us a little more insight as to why our opinions differ so greatly. I say that because I absolutely despise Conan (have never liked him on any platform) and I have learned over the years that there are some big differences between people who like Conan and people who hate Conan (and there is no middle ground).

The bottom three were Jacob, Stephano, and Pia.

I wasn't surprised with Jacob or Stephano.

I'm tiring of Jacob's voice / arrangements and it appears as though the rest of America is too.

We all know Stephano isn't among the strongest contestants and it's only a matter of time before the few "girl" votes he is getting aren't enough to keep him around.

Pia was a little bit of an initial shock, but after thinking about it, I am not all that surprised. She certainly has a better voice than a lot of the remaining contestants, but she hasn't shown any personality at all. I think it's an absolute must to have some personality and connect with the viewers on some level. I liken it to having the actual Celine Dion in the competition. Sure she'd have the best voice, but are the young voters going to go for the pure vocal talent vs. someone with some personality who puts on a good show? It's almost as though she was trying to hard to be perfect and flawless on and off stage that she forgot there is more to the competition than just having a great voice.

Yeah but DialIdol had her pwning with the most busy signals, indicating she'd surely stay on. Now I'm just confused.

This might help your confusion Tay
It's really quite simple math:

BS- (Tx+IV) = DISN

In other words

Busy signals minus texting plus internet voting equals dial idol sucks now

This was a huge blow to dial idols reputation, like a tsunami in the night.
AI producers are loving this alot, but at what cost. AI ratings will surely suffer now.
Having 60 year old guys running around on stage with their shirts off is not helping either.
I also don't like the way the producers are telling these kids what to do and how to sing.
I have heard plenty of bad advise and in some cases hurt the contestant. Where are the weekly mentors? I can't wait till Obama makes a televisit and puts his 1 cents worth in.

This years American Idol seems to be all about getting laughs instead of
producing some great music that people would want to listen to over and over.
Even Kris Allen produced a couple of great sounding songs, along with Adam Lambert
and David Cook. Even that dreadlock kid named David, sang that tiny Tim song yet sold a huge number on Itunes. I haven't seen that moment yet this year.

That's a big song Stefano, and you don't have a big voice.

Right there, he sounds so exposed trying to sing the big note. He just doesn't have what it takes to sing that kind of song and hit that kind of note.

Well, I think I know who my bottom 3 are!

Honestly I thought this was one of Scotty's weaker performances, perhaps he shouldn't of changed. I felt like he was off for the intro, and he got pushed around by the backup singers. He hit his stride in the middle, but was weak up until then.

So they cut Casey's hair and beard more. At this rate he'll look like Howie Mandel by the time they finish.

Now Nat King Cole is awesome. And Casey's performance was awesome. But it's the type of thing that tends to flop when it comes to voting. Jimmy warned him about it.

I mean, I'm 100% going to vote for him, and I really hope the people who actually suck get voted off, but I'm worried for him now. This is the type of performance where Casey beats himself.

I'm doing ths live from my new ipad!

Paul- He's killing it with this song, but I bet Matt hates it. Nice job. I definitely like "Sax with Paul"!

Commercial- wait, Miley has a movie song?

Lauren- Hannah Montana is not a movie! Good god I don't want to even hear this. How would it get Pia's votes?! Lauren's singing ok, but I just can't take this seriously. Yuck. Like Thia, if this is the only kind of song she sings well, that's bad.

Yay vortex of suck with Stefano!- his outfit is super douchey lol. He should lose this thing, stop encouraging him!!! B2M won't connect you with anyone. This sounds super choppy and he still can't hold out a long note. Broken record much? Please let it be the end of the road for him.

Scotty- lol I'd call Will.I.am "dude"! Yay George Strait. Unfortunately he sounds really nervous or something. Ok in the chorus he's back in the zone. Give this kid an album now please?

Casey- why do they keep killing his beard? This guy is a true musician on his bass. Maybe not suited for this type of show bur that performance was killer. Good job sticking to your guns. Lol at JLo admitting it is a popularity contest. I love Casey.

Haley- this isn't even close to impressive. Prancing around screeching should not get you votes, but it probably will. Ugh. I'm not calling her any time soon. You shouldn't just vote to keep a girl on the show! Ugh

Jacob- everyone sings this song, and Jacob's version is terrible. Can I have Clay Aiken back? His version was awesome.

James- He doesn't need pimping but he got it anyway. I don't like Iovine, he's showing himself to be an asshole. All James is saying is give metal a chance! Love.

Bottom three- Jacob, Lauren, Stefano

Going home- Stefano

Hopefully America will keep Casey around.

klinkman
04-13-2011, 07:27 PM
Well, I shouldn't have expected anything less from James. He rocked it hard. It might be good that he got the pimp spot, as a good chunk of America just won't vote for a metal singer. But he got votes when he did Judas Priest, this might not be any different.

I'm too disappointed with this week's show to give a deep summary.

My Top 3 (In order from best to worst): Jacob, James, Casey (Haley is a close fourth).
My Bottom 3: Paul, Stefano, Scotty
America's Bottom 3: Stefano, Lauren, Paul
Going Home: Stefano

I like the advice Jimmy is giving to people. It's honest REAL advice from someone who knows what they are talking about. He's blunt and I think the contestants can use his input more so than anything any of the judges have said all season. Hell, what he did with Jacob tonight was absolutely amazing and Jacob is going to owe him his life for extending his time on AI. At the end of the day I want the contestants to be who they are (Casey & James made the right decision with their songs), but at least Jimmy is giving them advice from a perspective that matters.

Paul sounded like a seal arg arg arg
Lauren is too busy partying every night with her new boyfriend star of Twilight to even be taken serious. She's only 16 and her mother lets her party and date Hollywood stars. Shame on that country girl
"you move me beyond tears" REALLY STEVEN REALLY quit fawning over her already you perve.
Stefano: Worst shirt award, what the hell is he spending his $400 a week wardrobe money on? Terrible song choice and I didn't see any performance ROFLMOA
Scotty: I never heard that song before and it bored me stiff and then Randy (bless his big mouth) gave Scotty the curse saying that a star was born on AI stage.
Archeletta same thing, Adam Lambert same thing, Crystal Bowersock same thing.
Thank you Randy
The judges put no pressure on Scotty to do anything other than sing country ballads unlike previous years the contestants are forced to change it up or feel the rath of Simon
Casey the Beatnick that just doesn't fit the hollywood mold but he is trying real hard to change that. I love Nat king Cole but I had never heard that song and I don't believe America took any interest at all in his style of Jazz singing.
Hailey: She shouted a bit to much but I liked the song choice and I did watch her twice. Mad at the judges for dissing her so hard when they praised everyone else in the show but her. BITE ME JUDGES
Jacob: before song looked and acted like he had lost his best friend and then he sings the most depressing song and version of a depressing song I have ever heard (shocked that NDN liked it the best)
He has given up on the compitition> it just proves that you don't want to pull the feather out of a *** mans hat.
James: That's more like it, not his best vocals but he out-performed everyone combined. that a boy James I loved it.

American Idol keeps allowing multiple voting options so they can keep fooling us with record number of votes and now it has backfired on them with Pia getting voted off last week. The talk now is to change voting to 1 vote per household or phone #. That will never happen because the numbers would drop drastactly. Ryan would say this week we got a new
voting process record # of votes with 12 million votes,,,NOT 64 million like they claim they get a week
They have gone cheap this year by not hiring any mentors and my suggestion is even go cheaper next year and can all the judges and just push a mic in front of an audience member,
Could enjoy a few viral monents!!!!

Sorry I sound a little negative today. I would feel better if they would vote off the entire bottom 3 tonight
They know who they are:

Stefano, Jacob and Paul
of the 3 I would not like to ever hear sing again????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????
all three and Lauren

You have to give credit where credit is due. In what turned out to be a second straight week of boring performances, Jacob was definitely the best of the group. Really? Kiss of death Scotty? I’m sure you’re all over it NDN!
Scotty: I thought it was ok but not amazing this week. Just the opposite, I’d have Scotty do as traditional county as possible instead of trying to push him out of his comfort zone. That’s where he’ll hit it out of the park every time.
Samuel L Jackson is narrating a Disney movie? WOW that’s hilarious.
James: Wait, having a marching band drum line is contemporary? That **** hasn’t been cool since like the 1850’s. Plumes were NEVER cool! I know I was in marching band! The song was completely and utterly awesome. Yes, taking the last chorus up the octave was nuts. It’s kind of bad though that they pushed his performance up so early, it deserved better.
Wow the 2 worst contestants left hate each other. Odd, you’d think they’d be together.
Haley: Yeah she’s still terrible. She should sing the entire time with backup singers, they cover up how bad she is. Kind of like you drench cheap liquor in soda so you can’t taste how terrible it is.
Jacob: That song was moving I’m very impressed. I’m not sure what happened at the beginning, but I quickly forgot about it as I got in the song with him. I don’t think I agree with the comments about restraining his range, he needs to do that in order to connect with the audience as he did.
I’m not sure if Maroon 5 is more or less epic than my suggestion of having Casey do Lady Gaga.
Casey: Continues to be epic. This week he was even relevant too! OH WOW I did not expect him to just walk right to J-Lo and kiss her. He drove Randy and Steven to swearing and Ryan to wearing a beard! No one can possibly top that.
Stefano: It honestly wasn’t that bad. He did get a chance to put something in his wheelhouse. He’s still a cut below the rest of the field in my mind, and should have been gone a long time ago.
Also, Stefano totally sounded like a douche in the exit interview
Lauren: God damn it why the hell are they giving her the pimp spot? She’s deserved to be in the bottom 3 for god knows how long but people keep voting for her! So they are going to pimp her for more votes?!?!
It wasn’t too bad again, but she just will never hit the level of Casey or James or Scotty in my mind. I didn’t notice any glaring flaws in her performance though, I just didn’t think it was awesome, or moving, or impressive.
Winner: Casey. Because no one has come close to having a moment like that on the idol stage in years
My bottom 3: Stefano, Haley, and [this spot reserved for the loser of run off between Scotty and Lauren]
America’s Bottom 3: Stefano, Haley, Scotty
Scotty was kiss of death-ed and had kind of a weak week, so I think he ends up in the bottom 3, with Stefano and Haley, the 2 who are obviously weaker than everyone else.
Going home: Haley

I enjoyed the show tonight more than I have the last two weeks, so that's already a huge plus for me!

Here are my thoughts on each performance; in order of best to worst.

1. Haley - The moment they said she was doing this song I knew it was going to be good and I wasn't disappointed! Not only did she do a great job, but she also gets my vote for the smartest song selection of the entire season. This song fit her voice perfectly and she should continue her streak of picking up fans each week.

2. Casey - Another brilliant performance and a great song pick. There were a few songs I was worried about him doing when they said Maroon 5, but this one was definitely a good fit.

3. James - I have a hunch this song sounded amazing in person, but it didn't quite come off that way through the TV. It was still a solid performance, but was expecting a little more. Since it was Muse, I'll post the video below for our British pal, but I think Fox/YouTube pulls the videos due to copyright issues once they spot them so I don't know how long it will stay up.

RYzHpNuzzsc

4. Jacob - They did a hell of a job trying to make this emotional for everyone, but Jacob did a miserable job of selling it. This was the least emotional he's been all year! If he would have brought a tenth of the emotion that he's had in nearly every other song, this could have been a great one for him.

5. Lauren - This was just ok. Nothing great about it and nothing terrible about it.

6. Stefano - It might be one of the best Stefano songs, but it still didn't do much for me.

7. Scotty - Like I've said from day one, Scotty has no place in this competition. I'm sick and tired of listening to him TALK to us each week instead of SING to us. And why did the other contestants make the way he smirks and holds his microphone seem cool when it's one of the things that makes me hate him more than ever! Perhaps this week America will give him a wake up call, because his days are quickly coming to an end on the show.

My Bottom Three: Lauren, Stefano, Scotty
America's Bottom Three: Lauren, Stefano, Jacob
Going Home: Jacob

Scotty- kiss of death spot(?) once again I'm at Scotty's concert! Love this :) Why is JLo giving him crap??? Boooo he will not get kiss of death! **** the producers.
*

The great part about this week is that there were only seven singers (not counting the **** intro song) so Scotty can no longer blend in and be forgotten and passed through each round. America should quickly see that he's the weakest performer up there and give him a MUCH deserved boot.

James- Muse song...his voice sounds a bit weak or maybe technical issues? I'm not sure. A bit boring for James honestly. I still like him. *Stop pointing out that he's "crazy" though, please.

I don't get the impression that they mean "crazy" in a negative sort of way. I think they're just saying that he has balls and he's not going to hold back like some of the contestants. And I think we lost the genius of the performance through the TV.

Haley- this doesn't sound like shes channeling heartache at all... PHENOMENAL singing I guess but the mood is off.

Finally someone is warming up to Haley, who has clearly got some talent!

Jacob- I bet they'll fawn over this...okay it's making me tear up too. Blah. Agree with Randy but I hate the poopy face.

I didn't tear up because I can't relate to the song personally and Jacob did a piss poor job of connecting with me to help me feel the emotion.

Hopefully Scotty IS THE kiss of death.

Amen

Really? Kiss of death Scotty? I’m sure you’re all over it NDN!

Scotty would make a good auctioneer.

Scotty: I thought it was ok but not amazing this week. Just the opposite, I’d have Scotty do as traditional county as possible instead of trying to push him out of his comfort zone. That’s where he’ll hit it out of the park every time.

He'll hit it out of the park because that's where he'll be; at a park, on a swing, crying because he didn't make it to the top five on American Idol. The funny thing is, I'll be on the swing next to him trying to figure out how the hell he made it this far.

Samuel L Jackson is narrating a Disney movie? WOW that’s hilarious.

I think I'll go see this. Between the commercial and something compelling about the Jordan Sparks tune, something is telling me to go see this.

J-Lo called this the best "theatrical" performance of the night, but it seemed pretty tame to me.

Haley: Yeah she’s still terrible. She should sing the entire time with backup singers, they cover up how bad she is. Kind of like you drench cheap liquor in soda so you can’t taste how terrible it is.

Oddly I think Haley is one of the only contestants that doesn't use the backup singers to drown themselves out...

I’m not sure if Maroon 5 is more or less epic than my suggestion of having Casey do Lady Gaga.

Gaga would be fun for him.

Casey: Continues to be epic. This week he was even relevant too! OH WOW I did not expect him to just walk right to J-Lo and kiss her. He drove Randy and Steven to swearing and Ryan to wearing a beard! No one can possibly top that.

Haley topped that tonight my friend.

The results are in (they were in last night but apparently we had some server issues that were out of our control so none of us could post)!

America's Bottom Three: Haley, Jacob, Stefano

They quickly whisked Haley away back to safety, which left Jacob and Stefano.

Haley was not deserving of the bottom three, but Jacob and Stefano definitely were (Stefano more so than Jacob).

Ultimately, Stefano was sent packing and Jacob was sent back to safety.

This is perfectly fine by me, but I wouldn't have been sad if either one of them left.

Here's how I would like the remaining six to finish (based on what we've seen thus far). I'm not opposed to changing my mind, but for now, this is where I am at with everyone.

1. Casey
2. James
3. Haley
4. Lauren
5. Jacob
6. Scotty

Here's how I think America has them finishing at the moment:

1. James
2. Casey
3. Scotty
4. Haley
5. Lauren
6. Jacob

Although Haley has been in the bottom more often, I have to believe America will see that she is stronger than Lauren. She should last longer than Jacob because I think we are all tiring of him, but sadly the voting majority will undoubtedly put Scotty ahead of all three of them. I think Scotty will continue to be obviously weak as fewer contestants remain, landing him in third. From there, I think James will appeal to more of the majority, and Casey will stay true to himself and take some fun risks, ultimately leading to him losing the competition for himself.

An unnamed insider with the show who spoke on grounds of anonymity stated that James (Durbin) can really put the away the beer. And that he can finish two family size bags of pretzels in one sitting.

He noted that Lauren "Peaches" Alaina is addicted to Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Hostess Pink Sno Balls, Little Debbie Shortcake Rolls, and Big Macs.

And Jacob "Ebenezer Baptist" Lusk has a self-imposed quota of 35 buffalo wings per day.

"Peaches" Alaina when informed that she will have to put herself on a diet of carrots, celery, and six raisins per day yelled out five expletives that would even make Howard Stern blush.

In a related story. Simon Shindlebocker has defended his demand by saying that it has gotten to the point where 16-year-old Miss Alaina is going up one full dress size each week.

My weekly review is this:
Scotty is starting to show his true colors, no one really likes him of the other contestants ( Stefano wouldn't even hug him after he was kicked off)
Scotty comes off as a smart *** who is the leader of his crew ( the boys) and nothing he says or thinks can be changed. What a ginornous EGO.
Oh by the way, what a nice dosey doke feeling that performance gave me.
He would have fit right in on the Howdy Doody show.
In fact Scotty looks just like Howdy Doody. Sorry Tay I am just a former kid from the peanut gallery

James hit notes that maybe a dozen people can hit in the world and he is working his *** off to win it. Crying for Stefano will get him more votes

Haley: really sounded great going that huge song and did it effortlessly

Casey: sounded good until the last 30 seconds when he started shrieking and lost his breath still has yet to impress me

Jacob: Is he still here?

Stefano: I actually liked his performance for the first time.

It's that time of week again, so here are my thoughts on tonight's show.

Overall, I find myself more confused than ever before as to where to place each contestant. James was the stand-out of the night, but I think the other five were all really close this week. I was actually more entertained tonight than I thought I would be with the songs of Carole King.

James: This was a fantastic effort. I only wish he would have had the balls to do the entire song without music because that first part was unbelievable and I wouldn't have had any problems listening to an entire song like that.

Casey: This was great for what it was, but I'm not sure it's what I was looking for tonight. I certainly can't criticize any of it (loved the piano at the start) but I can't put it at the top of my favorite Casey moments.

Haley: This wasn't anywhere near the best she's been, but I hope America will agree that it was good enough to keep her around. It seems like even with a not so great performance a lot more people are rooting for her than ever before. At least that's the impression I got (that was echoed by the Judge's comments too).

Scotty: This was my favorite Scotty performance (granted that's not saying much). I think he showed more range than ever before and FINALLY one of his songs sounded different than the same thing he's done up until now. If he can grow and keep pushing himself, I might have a harder time giving him so much ****.

Lauren: This wasn't great and it wasn't horrible. Unfortunately, I don't think that does much for her at this point in the competition. If she lasts another week, she better really go for it!

Jacob: Again, not great and not horrible. Unfortunately, I think he has worn out his welcome a little more than Lauren has and think he'll get the boot this week.

Bottom Three: Jacob, Lauren, Haley
Going Home: Jacob

I forgot to mention the duets!

If duets count (and they aren't supposed to) then I put Haley higher up on my list tonight and not in the bottom three. Her duet with Casey was epic and was probably my favorite part of the show tonight.

The duet between Lauren and Scotty was forgettable (as were there other three this season).

I didn't like the duet between James and Jacob, but I did like that you actually got the impression that Jacob was finally having genuine FUN!

First off I wish Jimmy would lose the hat
mad at AI for matching up Lauren and Scotty for the 3rd time for their duet which Lauren totally creamed Scotty.
Casey and Haley teamed up again wasn't fair either.
However James and Lusky sounded great. It was corny as hell and FU Steven for dissing them, but there were some great sounding moments in their duet and James made some great Elvis moves. Did you hear those two match those high notes perfectly togther. Awesome. Go back and watch again.

Jacob- has a fantastic voice but sang a forgettable song
Scotty- started out sounding country but lost it several times during his song
Lauren- sounds great but all too country is getting old
James- had another star moment this week James 2- Scotty-0
Casey- I loved this performance and even though he is such a goof off on stage, Casey is 10 times more entertaining than Scotty
Haley- Bad song choice and it bored me

Have to thank AI actually after more thought, putting James and Jacob together. When Jacob gets the boot tonight, his fan base will now support James. I was already counting on this to happen, while the country vote will go to Lauren now and the tween vote to Scotty now fading.
Should be close thanks to the producers who are getting sick of Scotty being a smart *** and not listening to them.
Best quote of the night: Lauren " Scotty never compliments me!"
FNPOSAW he is.

Just finished watching the results show and I am quite disappointed.

They sent Casey home tonight and it's a crying shame! He was one of my favorites on the show and he was extremely talented. I looked forward to seeing his performance each and every week.

I don't get excited about watching Jacob, Lauren, or Scotty each week, so I really hope it comes down to James and Haley at the end or I might quit watching.

As everyone pointed out in this thread, I think Casey lost it for himself. The song last night wasn't going to appeal to the masses and that's why he went home tonight.

On a semi-related note, I watched The Voice tonight and I quite enjoyed it. For the first show I think they did a great job and I think this one has some potential! I have to see how the next "round" after the "blind auditions" goes before I can say I am officially on board though.

Someone undeserving of the title; that's for sure!

This year started off so promising and then got worse nearly every week!

Haley certainly should have taken the title between the final three. Scotty & Lauren are so weak compared to some greats that were voted off (Casey, James, Pia to name a few).

That's awesome! You should have just bought her a DVR so she could record it at home and then she wouldn't have had to stay so late!

Do they have Canadian Idol?
