View Full Version : Disturbing news about GR88..... Anyone know anything?

I am quoting this from someone else, but I know for a fact this is true, as I know the person who wrote it, and people who have had it done...

It has come to our attention that a member of GR88 Poker's marketing team is emailing players directly asking them to join the GR88 card room. This person (Colin Anderson) was formerly on the staff at a couple of Merge Gaming Poker sites. After some investigating we've determined that he mostly likely gained access to these player e-mail addresses by taking them from his former employers mailing lists.

If this is the case then he is using proprietary information to directly damage the income and player base of his former employers. There are, of course, legal issues with this for the poker rooms involved. What disturbs us as affiliates is that we are having our player base undermined by this tactic as well with no way to get restitution.

We have removed any promotion or link to GR88 from our sites. We feel that GR88 broke the trust with players and affiliates by allowing this practice. We feel that any online poker site that has to use such dirty tactics to attract players is not worthy of being in any way associated with Holdem Poker Chat or it's members.

We have notified Merge Gaming of the actions taken by GR88.com and they have promised us that they are launching a full investigation and will take the appropriate steps to put an end to the use of the tactics being employed by GR88.com. We are also considering to file a spam claim against GR88 under the Can-Spam Act as these emails are being sent unsolicited.

Ummm yeah.

1 - Data Protection Act = Screwed...

2 - Takes money from affiliates if people join directly through their links, plus they make more money from Merge directly. As they paid around $50,000 for the skin, then they get a % of everyone through their own links, and referralls from merge loyalty scheme or whatever.

I know Colin personally as he lives 30 minutes from my home and have been there for many dinners.I do not believe that post for one minute ,if Colin's database was used it was done with GR88 knowledge IMO.Colin has been around the poker business for many years and had large numbers of rake back players .I know he had a number of big dollar players that usually follow him around as they like him .He definitely does not need to spam players and that is not in his charactor. Incidentially he now works for Unibet who will be sponsoring stuff here.
I will be seeing Colin next week at CBG Affiliate Weekend Niagara Falls (http://www.cbgaffiliateweekend.com) which is my event and plan to ask him to make a comment on this .But people who post this do not realise that Colin has his own sites and DATABASE for many years.it is like me sending an email to my Casinobonusguy members and telling them i own this place please come and sign up.

Fair points. I was just saying what I got told for this forum, I obviously wasnt aware of a personal relationship of any kind.

To completely derail this thread, how great is it that the new owners of NDN run one of the major affiliate conferences each year?!?!

I'm excited to see NDN grow and reach heights that I could only have dreamed of.

I implore everyone to keep a close eye on NDN, because given a little bit of time, this place really has the potential to be more amazing than it already is.

I dont really follow a whole lot on the industry other then security issues, But even i have heard about this and do remember getting a unsolicited email from gr88 some time ago, and i too was a member of reefer poker. I am not entirely sure what the industry rules are on one another potential customers.

Dear NoDepositNeeded,

This is Colin and the persons name that has been mentioned in this thread, and wanted to clear things up here as there is always two sides to every story!

Firstly, I was hired as a consultant to the above poker site to assist in their player development and Affiliate program between January and June of this year.

the list that was used was my own personal list of contacts which was never stolen but accumulated over the years from the numerous sites I had...

The person that posted this was an affiliate who felt that he was being cheated out of affiliate commission on a player and nothing more...

The CEO chose not to have me come in and contacted the affiliate on my behalf and things were cleared up and we moved on with business as usual..

Gr88 and myself parted ways in the middle of June and I have moved on to a much bigger company with many years of history within the i gaming industry..

In my 8 years in the gaming industry, I have never once had a problem with anyone right up until this with the above mentioned site.

I have become very close friends with many of the affiliates and players who have worked with me over the years, due to my hands on approach with both affiliates and players and will continue to do this to the best of my abilty for as long as I am in the gaming industry (Probably till I retire or die!)

If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me any time via pm on here and Ill be more than happy to answer any questions you may have

Regards

Colin
