Just out of curiosity why would you limp in with pocket Q's? In almost every book written about poker that is a raising hand every time. I wasn't there so I can't say any more about the way the hand played. I think if you raised it 4 - 5x the bb the J7 suited folds out and you pick up the pot.

Ok, i have alot of issues with this.

1 - please dont post pics, post hand histories!!! Then we cn see how ou played it, i can work out why along with other people, then we can comment!! From that pic all i see is yo lost with QQ to J7c.

2 - Limping with QQ is often a good play. Sometimes you raise, sometimes limp. If you dont mind folding it to an A x x or K x x flop if there s action, then limp all you like. But you must be able to get away from this hand if it misses. And as that is the worst flop imaginable (overcards, Flush draws, Straight possibilities, AND factor in that you cant even draw to the nut hand, its either a simple cehck/fold, or you bet, if they raise, you fold, if they call, afer the turn you should know your beat so fold then.

    3 - i dunno i forgot 3, but ill remember it

As usual, I have to come in here and clean up what eejit messed up.

Personally, I never limp big pairs. But, that has more to do with my general image then any deep theories. I raise a lot of hands, so if I suddenly start limping, hmm... For some, limping works better, as it my disguise their hands. As to what the books say: F*** the books.

Now, you have to slow down on that flop, obviously. I don't see me losing a 8k pot at 150/300 stakes to an AKJ flop. Here is where you need to exercise pot control. Now, where eej messed up: after the turn, you do have 6 to the nuts, and a T makes a decent hand. Now, here is where you have to rely on your reads (if you had been at the same table, and he had, since the first hand, you should have a decent read on him). I do probably lose a decent pot here, but it is going to be more in the area of 2-3k, as letting go of QQ, or slowing down if you are betting it, is pretty easy to do.

I'm going to have to disagree with eejit. Limping with QQ is asking for a weak hand to come into the pot, say 5/6 suited, and out flop you and you not know it. The odds of you winning are greatly reduced with every player you allow to enter a pot when you have a big pocket pair. With QQ vs 5/6 you are a 78/22 favorite to win, but you limped and allowed another player to enter. Now it's QQ vs 5/6 vs A2 (BB limped). Guess what happens to the odds. You are now only a 58% favorite to win.

If that isn't a perfect example of what can, and will, happen if you limp with a big pocket pair, I don't know what is. I would rather win the blinds than lose a larger pot that I shouldn't of let happen.

Another perk to raising is it generates a aggressive table image. Later in the session you start to develop the ability to bluff/semi-bluff and pick up the pot.

Im not saying limp every time! I'm just saying sometimes its good to limp with the big hands preflop as ofte your hand s disguised and you can get paid to the maximum. Sometimes you get a raise in a laer position with a hand that wouldnt have called anyway, and you can either re-pop it or play along.

Not saying its a great idea, but if your PREPARED to gamble losing a bit of a pot, limping can work

Thanks guys, eejits theory has worked alot for me, there's just alot of these.I will start posting hand histories to, however I hope not to many of these. Now I shouldn't have done it here, but wouldn't limping with a larger stack can it help? I just couldn't sustain the beat here. However if I had won this hand later in the tourney, wouldn't this help me pick up pots? What I mean is if theres a large pot and everyone gets checky, maybe they think I limped with monster? I am just rattling here, I do appreciate the posts your thoughts are golden.

You should have known you were beat on the flop. What could you really beat? a bluff? The only thing that makes your hand somewhat justifiable is the queen on the river which was going to help you anyways. Keep your head up bro.
